A report of a shooting Wednesday night on the south end of Simi Valley turned out to be a false alarm, police said.Police were told of a possible shooting about 6:50 p.m. near Sage Street and Laurel Ridge Drive. A citizen had called 911 to report the shooting in the 200 block of Culview Street, saying a person with a rifle had been seen pointing it at people.Officers said they responded and detained the suspected shooter. Police said the investigation revealed children were playing with airsoft pellet weapons and the caller was hit with an errant pellet. Her husband, the 911 caller, misunderstood what she was saying and believed she had been shot with a real firearm, police said.
Police said they would like to remind the public that it is illegal to use airsoft guns anywhere within the city other than permitted facilities. Adults should always closely supervise children with any of these activities, police said.
