KNOXVILLE — A teenage boy pleaded guilty Thursday to charges that he shot a school bus driver with a pellet gun in South Knoxville last month, authorities said.
The 17-year-old was arrested Aug. 14 on charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. The teen fired several shots from an Airsoft gun at the passing school bus on Joe Lewis Road, hitting the driver “a couple of times,” said Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
The shots left welts on the driver’s skin but he declined treatment. No children on the bus were injured.
The same teenager received minor injuries during a previous gun-related incident June 3, DeBusk said.
The boy was carrying a stolen Kimber .45-caliber pistol as he walked through the courtyard at Montgomery Village Apartments on Joe Lewis Road when he accidentally shot himself in the leg.
More details as they develop online and in Friday’s News Sentinel.
